The Brighter Planet Challenge

You may have noticed the little badge on the side bar of my blog from Brighter Planet. I recently signed up for the 350 challenge, a deal where Brighter Planet will offset 350 pounds of carbon in my name in exchange for posting the badge.

Since my blog is new and still really under construction, I wasn't sure I would meet their criteria. I signed up last week and got a message saying they'd review my website and get back to me. I figured if they didn't like my blog, having the link on the page would encourage other people to sign-up as well, so it was a win either way. It took them a little while to get back to me, but I just got this in my email today.

Four weeks ago, we launched the 350 Challenge to help bloggers like yourself raise awareness for the fight against global warming.

You quickly rose to the challenge. Today we're proud to announce that not only did we hit our goal, but we blew right past it. As of this morning, over 400 bloggers are participating in the challenge.

Thanks to you, Brighter Planet will now offset 140,000 pounds of CO2 on behalf of everyone who participated. Soon, you will receive an offset certificate to commemorate your involvement.

Since we've hit our goal, we'll stop pestering you for help, but due to the campaign's success, we've decided to leave it open for now. We'll continue to offset 350 pounds of CO2 for each new blogger who joins the fight.

We're now working on some new, creative ways to continue raising awareness. Please join our facebook fan page to stay current. If you have any suggestions, we'd love to hear them.

Awesome, no? This blog is officially carbon offset! I'm not sure how much carbon cost there is in running a blog, but I'd bet that 350 pounds is good enough to make it at least carbon neutral. If you've got a blog, I highly recommend getting your own badge and signing up!
